Last month, there are a few major credit card data hacking occurring that has happened within DBS bank. Yes...the source comes from "onlinecitizenasia" website. There have been complaints from customers mentioning about unauthorized transactions. The authorities, from the bank managers to the police could do nothing to keep track and stop it. After the unauthorized transactions are difficult to track, and the affected victim is unable to receive notifications and emails stating that these transactions have been completed. The users are not able to know what is actually happening from the back end, as malicious script installed and embedded in the web browser, rendering the UI, causing the user to believe the bank balance is in fact, left untouched. The customers have been told by bank employees to remove the old credit/debit cards and they will stop all their current transactions immediately. The moves to stop the current card transactions do not deter hackers in the future to hack into the new credit/debit card details!
Hackers are known to be very powerful, although only a small handful, who are an adept in the software, network and its architecture. The new generation of jobs require people specializing in cyber crimes and security, equipped with the tools to monitor the dynamic input of transactions through the network of correct IP address.
The pace of digitization has fasten to drive efficiency and lower the chance of spreading the virus through lower chance of contacting in this covid19 pandemic situation. Many different job industries can no longer go back to how the traditional business model runs. It can only be forward looking with many more digitization skill set to adapt and compromise.
Cyber security professionals, who is in fact, someone with the domain knowledge to become a white hacker are considered unicorns. There are more software engineers doing programming , technical support, project managing, etc than someone who is trained in penetrate testing. There is no evidence on the statistics of cyber security roles, and this statement of allegation I have mentioned above are due to my own speculation. If you are to explore the different job portals and search for a cyber security role, you can roughly do the percentage allocation among the different roles in IT.
The landing of cyber security roles are also filled with challenges as organisations is looking for certified individuals, asking for less realistic expectations and worst, some organisations are not willing to spend a portion of their fundings with corporate cyber trainings and bootcamps.
The expansion of business in becoming a global digital hub give rise the need for more cyber security specialist as some developers are only equipped with basic app security knowledge. There is a rising need of these specialist to ensure business continuity as more business have gone online and transactions can only rise exponentially in the future of digital economy.
